2009 Marketer of the Year - A Day of Celebration

The Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) honored the best and most creative marketing campaigns of 2009 at the annual Marketer of the Year celebration, held on December 10th, 2009 at Le Mont restaurant.

Mr. Bill Flanagan, Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations for the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Drawing from various industries of the Pittsburgh region, local companies and their marketing campaigns were recognized for their achievements.

One of the highlights of the event was the posthumous induction of Fred Rogers into the Pittsburgh AMA’s Hall of Fame. Mr. David Newell (Mr. McFeely) accepted the award on behalf of Fred Rogers and his family.

Dr. Dean Manna, Professor of Marketing at the Robert Morris University School of Business, received the Distinguished Educator Award for making a significant impact on students whose focus is on marketing. Professor Manna uses a pragmatic yet entertaining approach to teaching and enjoys research in emotional intelligence and its effect on productivity and morale.   

The recipients of the marketing awards were judged on a point system based on the criteria of problem/situation, objectives, strategy, tactics, and results in 14 potential categories. 2009 Award winners in their categories were:

ChannelLock, Inc. - Industrial and Manufacturing category - for their #89 Rescue Tool  campaign developed by SBC Advertising.

Giant Eagle - Retail category - Low prices and prescription medication promotions.

The Fitting Group - Healthcare category - Butler Health System's full marketing campaign

The Pipitone Group - Real Estate category -  BCP/Benner Commerce Park CCIDC, which focused on BCP’s recent work with Penn State University and the Centre County Chamber of Commerce.

The Pipitone Group - Construction category - work on Sauereisen’s new marketing initiatives.

The Priory Hospitality Group - Sports and Entertainment/Travel/ Hospitality category - for their Winter White Wedding™ marketing campaign developed by BrandMill.

The Art Institutes - Education category – To drive national marketing campaigns to elevate The Art Institutes brand.

PITT OHIO EXPRESS - Professional Services category - for their “Go Ship Win” campaign.

Private Wealth Advisors, Inc. - Financial Services category - Successful rebranding campaign.  

The 2009 Grand Marketer of the Year award went to the Priory Hospitality Group, for their Winter White Wedding ™ marketing campaign developed by BrandMill.
